The first details about Call of Duty 5 (or Call of Duty: World at War) are released. These details range from awesome, to a let down. Let’s go with the good news first though. Call of Duty 5 will host a number of new features. One of these new features is the ability to play through the campaign with co-op. Music to my ears! Multiplayer matches will also now have Vehicles. I’m not quite sure how I feel about that. COD has always been known for its quick and fast squad based action. I hope they’re not trying to turn this into battlefield 1942. Also, it is said that this game will be much gritter than any previous COD game, and any game on the market.
“Also, this is how gritty it is: ‘The opening scene of the first level we are shown is a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat – the blood splatters and dribbles down the side of the tent you are being held in. He turns towards you to deal out the same treatment but help arrives just in time. Cue a daring level-long escape.’”
Sounds good so far, right? Okay, let’s get to the bad news. First things first.. We’re back to World War II (Pacific Theater, to be exact). Wonderful.. After Call of Duty 4, it felt that the series took two steps forward. Let’s hope they’re not taking two steps back with this move. The second piece of bad news? It’s going to be made by Treyarch. The people behind the console only Call of Duty 3. Infinity ward will be taking on Call of Duty 6, I suppose.
The game is going to be using the Call of Duty 4 engine, and will be for every conceivable platform imaginable. We’ll keep you all up to date on all the latest COD5 information as it develops.
